Looks like I will be diving sticking a tiny toe back into the local business promotion via our Denton Chamber of Commerce, here in Denton, Texas. I am headed there to sample their breakfast meet-and-greet this Friday, and certainly hope the younger business folks have taken the place of the local good-old-boys who hastened my departure a couple decades ago.
Is there any better way to save other creatives time and money, than to document what goes on at one of these organizations – on a highly micro-local level? I think not. I should have been more outspoken years ago when some friction warmed up my disdain for some of the things happening under the Chamber’s umbrella, but it was so long ago! WordPress (blogging and interactive websites) did not exist at that time.
It (writing truthfully here about it) seems like a good way to document a photographer’s efforts to re-enter the local market in this day and age. I may have to bite my tongue a few times (as local snubs by TWU and UNT would require), but then age does bring a level of grace … or at least it is supposed to!
The note on the breakfast says that new attendees will get a chance to talk about themselves-their businesses. Where would I start? www.firstfridaydenton.com www.dentondigital.com www.shannondrawe.com www.sdphotography.com www.texasflycaster.com ? Yes, the list has shrunken down bit, but it needed shrinking! One thing that has not shrunken down is my wider appetite for photography over these many years, and that is why I am still here.
